Just bought a D1.  The manual only says altitude indication is from GPS.   Is this a pressure altitude or based on what reference?

Is the internal LI Ion battery user replaceable?

Thanks.

The battery is not user-replaceable, but like on your phone, it should last for years.

Altitude is GPS altitude. It's based on a mathematical model of the earth that isn't exactly the same as mean sea level, but the model is designed to be comparable to other altitude measuring techniques. In practice, you'll see altitudes that are between dozens and small hundreds of feed different than what your altimeter says. The differences are due to satellite configuration, reception quality, and differences in air masses that can cause pressure altitudes to be non-standard at different altitudes.

So the altimeter is based on a very variable pressure altitude.
Will Dynon replace the internal battery when necessary, how much?

I'd say it a bit differently. It should roughly match your indicated altitude, but it won't match it exactly. It's not really based on pressure altitude.

We can replace the battery when needed (I don't think anyone has worn it down). Per our returns page, battery replacement would be covered by our flat rate out-of-warranty repair fee, which is nominally $200.
