Leaning Function

View of the EGT/CHT part of the display with the Lean Mode Activated

A key capability of the EMS-D10 system is the Lean Function which allows the pilot to optimize the fuel mixture as manifested by peaking EGT temperatures. While this can be accomplished within the existing overview display, pilots may activate the Lean Function via the softkey menu to enhance the EGT/CHT presentation within the System Overview screen.

With this enhanced mode activated, the "Lean Mode" label is displayed at the bottom of the EGT/CHT bars to clearly differentiate it from the normal operating mode. Additionally, the absolute EGT temperatures (indicated on the right side of the graph) are replaced with new data as each cylinder peaks. This data includes the sequential order in which the cylinders peaked as well as the delta temperature from their peak. Given this new data, pilots can set their mixture more accurately to attain a given EGT delta value on either the rich or lean side of peak EGT.
