FlightDEK-D180 Firmware Revision Log

Version Date Released Changes

5.6.1

8/2/16

Improved: The airspeed indicator now updates more smoothly at lower airspeeds.
Improved: Factory default settings provide a better out-of-the-box experience for new users.

5.6.0

8/4/15

Fixed: Magnetic heading calibration no longer sensitive to flight attitudes that are signifigantly different than those experienced in level flight. This primarily resulted in less than optimal calibrations in some taildragger aircraft. Performance will not change until a heading calibration is performed after an upgrade to 5.6.0.

Fixed: Sensor type 10 sensor characterization for UMA 1BX Oil Temperature sensors.

5.5.0

7/11/13

Fixed: Autopilot NAVSRC lost messages which caused the autopilot to drop down from NAV to TRK or HDG mode.

Fixed: Autopilot altitude hold that was offset by tens of feet from the desired target. Existing altitude offsets may take a few minutes of straight/level AP flight to self-calibrate out.

Improved: Autopilot tolerance of EFIS installations that contain higher than ideal vibration levels.

Improved: Rotax oil temperature fluctuations smoothed out (sensor type 4).

5.4.3

12/23/11

Fixed: Minor oil pressure display bug introduced in 5.4.2.

5.4.2

12/15/11

Added: Support for new Kavlico brand pressure sensors sold by Dynon.

Fixed: SETUP>SPDCAL feature for improving IAS accuracy at very low airspeeds.

Improved: Oil pressure filtering.

Added: Support for alternative 3rd party two-wire oil temperature sensors. See the support wiki for sensor details.

5.4

9/1/10

Improved: Autopilot pitch axis control algorithms enhanced for better performance. See updated Installation Guide for details on new adjustments that can be used to tune pitch performance.
Fixed: Renamed button and bug dialog box label when in track mode from "HDG" to "TRK".
Fixed: EFIS start-up problem in extreme cold temperatures.

5.3.1

7/1/10

Support Program Only: Improvements to support firmware upgrades in OEM installations such as Vans Aircraft that use locked settings files to distribute settings during firmware updates. All other customers unaffected. There has been NO CHANGE to the underlying firmware files from 5.3.

5.3

3/23/10

Improved: An alternate set of autopilot control algorithms which may improve roll performance in some aircraft. To try this mode simply set TRN RT LMT to 0. The autopilot will more directly control bank angle instead of targeting a specific turn rate. The maximum bank angle that the autopilot allows continues is still limited by the BANK LIMIT parameter. In this mode, set the BANK ANGLE LIMIT to the maximum value you want the autopilot to use in a turn.

Improved: Jabiru oil temperature sensor characterization

Fixed: Multiple EFISs+AP74 configurations no longer susceptible to rebooting. This fix is the firmware-based solution mentioned in this forum post.

Fixed: Oil pressure sensor type 4 now shows "---" instead of a high temperature when the sensor is electrically disconnected.

Added: Metric vertical speed info item (digital number) is now expressed in meters per second to better match the graphical tape version, which is in tenths of meters per second.

5.2

12/01/09

Improved: Autopilot GPS-to-HDG mode drop-downs reduced when GPS data goes momentarily bad.

Fixed: Heading shaking and accuracy issues that could occur in some installations. Please note, the installer may need to recalibrate after upgrade.

Fixed: GRT oil temperature error at high temperatures.

Added: Support for SkyView conversion. Please note, for existing servos in the field you must upgrade to Version 5.2 before connecting to a SkyView system.

5.1.1

6/4/09

Fixed: Incorrect attitude performance introduced by 5.1.0 software. This occurred on a very small percentage of units but is now resolved in all cases.

5.1

5/26/09

Note: It is no longer recommended that Keep Alive be connected EFIS and EMS products.

Added: %SLP parameter in SETUP > AP > STATUS. Used for debugging cumulative servo slips when using the AP.

Added: Autopilot GPS Roll Steering. AP will now fly ARINC ROLL commands (GPS Steering) if the GPS provides those commands. ROLL steering will be used any time roll commands are present and AP GPS/NAV mode is selected.

Added: Autopilot status display on the 10 series' HSI page.

Added: Pitch and roll target preselect for the autopilot when used with the AP74/76. See the menu EFIS>SETUP>AP>AP74/76 SETTINGS, BUGS SYNC and CLEAR MODES ON DISENGAGE settings.

Added: Ability to disable altitude alerter audio. See EFIS>BUGS>ALTALM or ALTOFF.

Added: Autopilot NAV/VOR and NAV/LOC tracker.
NAV/VOR will intercept a VOR from almost any position relative to the station; 10nm out or more is typical. NAV/LOC must a) have the OBS set to the runway heading on the HSI and b) be engaged with the CDI needle off the peg, and the heading more or less aligned with the OBS

Added: Data log files now have servo position and HSI parameters (NAV and BRG sources, selected course, CDI, to/from flag, glide slope, bearing pointers, dist to waypoint/dme).

Fixed: Holding the heading knob on an HS34 did not toggle the heading knob off.

Fixed: SL30 BTS now correctly reflects standby radio bearing

Fixed: Pressing and holding the COURSE knob would not properly sync the course pointer to the current bearing. Instead it would sync to 360.

Fixed: Bearings are independently selectable from NAV sourse when an HS34 is present in the system.

Fixed: Course can now be changed when an EFIS is hooked to an SL30 without an HS34 installed, and the SL30 is tuned to an active LOC or ILS.

Fixed: Display glitch on the HSI page that would momentarily display GPS0 or NAV0.

5.0

11/12/08

Added: A warning is displayed if a magnetic calibration is attempted without first setting the magnetic inclination and intensity.

Added: Ability to configure an EMS contact input as a stall indicator. If AOA selected as alarm type, then audible stall warning triggered on contact activation. See: EMS > SETUP > EMS CONTACT 1/2 > ALARM

Added: Ability to perform incremental data log downloads.

Added: Alarm light output (pin 29 on EMS D-37 connector) can be repurposed as a dim control for other devices in aircraft. The dimming output is directly tied to the brightness of the screen, configured in the DIM menu. See: EMS > SETUP > GLOBAL > ALARM CONFIG >  LGT BHVR.

Added: AOA voice alert added to HS34 and AP74.  When SETUP > HSI/AP > AUDIO ALERTS > AOA is set to EXT VOICE the word "stall" is repeated in addition to the efis tonal output. When set to EXT TONE only the control panel generates the progressive tone. If HS34 or AP74 fails, setting reverts to EFIS TONE for direct audio output from EFIS. When set to EFIS TONE only the efis progressive tone is generated.

Added: Audible 3-tone alert on autopilot disengage, if no external voice device (HS34/AP74) installed.

Added: Data logging for selected EFIS and GPS parameters. See Support Program help for data log extraction procedure. See EFIS > SETUP > DATLOG.

Added: Elevator trim indication to the EFIS page.

Added: Support for Dynon Autopilot

Added: Support for new actively powered oil pressure sensor that comes preinstalled on newer Rotax 912 motors.

Added: Support for optional AP74. Has some functions of HS34 (audio alerts, including "Autopilot Disconnect"; VALUE knob), as well as dedicated Autopilot controls.

Fixed: Alert on HS34 contacts now works correctly.

Fixed: CDI would still appear on EFIS page even when EFIS NOT DETECTED message was displayed.

Fixed: Contact state indications reversed.

Fixed: Coolant pressure units mismatch.

Fixed: Erratic CDI as course is being adjusted with a Garmin 430 (or similar) connected.

Fixed: HS34 not handling positive mag var correctly.

Fixed: HSI with GPS input "blinks" on DSAB-connected slave screens.

Fixed: Pressing SYNC in any of the EFIS > BUGS menus now correctly activates AND syncs the bug simultaneously.

Fixed: Pushing BRG SRC would not always allow the bearings to be adjusted.

Fixed: Re-configuring the DSAB network from a new Bus Master EFIS when another Bus Master was in the system would fail.

Fixed: Screen brightness could be "stuck" at a very dim setting if an HS34 was present and then went offline.

Fixed: Serial inputs (GPS/SL30) connected to a screen when an HS34 is also connected will be properly ignored with fail-over if the HS34 fails.

Fixed: SL30 BTS reflected BTA value.

Fixed: Tach time accumulation was wrong in some instances when the left and right PULSES/REV settings were different.

Fixed: Timers now sync correctly across DSAB.

Fixed: Voice alert test behavior fixed when tested from an EMS product with an HS34 installed.

Fixed: VSI scale display incorrect with meters and 1K scale.

Can set FIRST ACTION to set the first parameter (ALT or BARO) in button push rotation. Bugs can be set without entering BUGS menu. Removed IAS bug from the values affected by the VALUE knob. A pop-up value window appears when adjusting a value with HS34.

Improved: Malformed AvMap NMEA data should be handled better, resulting in magnetic variation being back-calulated from other values when it is not explicitly set. This allows a correct magnetic bearing and course to be displayed. AvMAP must have NMEA set to "processed."

Improved: Modified percent power calculation for Lycoming and Continental engines to account for engine RPM red line, not compression ratio. When EMS > SETUP > GLOBAL > ENGINE TYPE is set to LY/CON, then the Tachometer HI RED/YEL parameter is factored into the percent power calculation. See: EMS > SETUP > SENSORS > TACHOMETER > HI RED/YEL.

Improved: Pressing HEADING knob button no longer toggles the HDG bug on/off. HEADING button press now acts as a SYNC of HDG bug to current heading. Pressing and holding HEADING toggles the heading bug on.

Added: Manual set of GPS selected course.
See: HSI menu>COURSE

If the GPS serial stream does not supply the selected course sentence, then the COURSE menu can be used to set the course on the HSI page.

Added: Type 4 coolant temperature sensor.

Added: Auto-set of kollsman window.
See: EFIS menu>SETUP>BARO>ADJUST AT BOOT:

The current indicated altitude is preserved across a power cycle. If possible, the baro setting is adjusted at power-up so that the new indicated altitude matches the saved value.
This is not a replacement for setting the baro by the pilot before takeoff, but it should make the baro very close to the proper value, minimizing the amount of adjustment needed.

Added: Leaning mode fuel flow difference.
See: EMS menu>LEAN

After the last cylinder peaks during a leaning operation the difference in fuel flow between the first and last cylinder peaks is displayed. If the fuel flow decreases it is shown as Lean of Peak. If fuel flow increases it is shown as Rich of Peak.

Added: Fuel addition auto detection.
See: EMS menu>SETUP>FUEL>ADD THRESHOLD

If enabled, at power-up an EMS will detect if fuel has been added above a percentage of the total tank volume in any tank. If detected, the EMS will prompt the pilot to add fuel on the fuel page.

Added: EMS end-user data logging.
See: EMS menu>GLOBAL>DATALOG CONFIG

The EMS saves many parameters for later retrieval by the Dynon Support Program.

Added: Percent power calculation.
See: EMS menu>SETUP>GLOBAL>ENGINE TYPE and HP RATING.

If enabled, percent power is displayed in the color arc of the manifold pressure guage. If a fuel flow sensor is installed, then lean or rich of peak operation is automatically detected. An altitude input from an EFIS is required.

Added: Save settings on power-off.

In addition to the current logic, units will now save their settings when powered off with the front panel button.

Added: Units on airspeed threshold set menu.
See: EFIS menu>SETUP>IASCLR

Added: Altitude alerter.

Toggling the altitude bug on will activate the altitute alerter function with the bug value as the target altitude. While climbing or descending toward the target altitude a level-off alert sounds when passing through 500' from the target altitude. The target altitude is considered captured when altitude is within 150' of the target. Flying more than 200' away from the target will trigger a short audio alert and alternate the bug in red and yellow as a visual alert. The visual climb or descend alert will clear after recapturing the target altitude or 30 seconds.

Added: Graphical vertical speed indicator.
See: EFIS menu>SETUP>STYLE>MODERN and EFIS menu>SETUP>CLUTTR>VSI

Added an analog vertical speed indicator. The VSI can be selected for a 1000'/min, 2000'/min or 4000'/min maximum. The indicator bar is scaled to indicate a 6 second altitude trend when in 2000'/min mode, or in 4000'/min mode up to 1000'/min.

Added: New AOA display.
See: EFIS menu>SETUP>STYLE>MODERN

A new AOA display style was added. This display shows horizantal bars which pull away as AOA increases and turn into downward pointing arrows as AOA approaches stall. A red triangle at the top of the display will flash while AOA audio is active.

Added: User configuration of serial ports.
See: EFIS menu>SETUP>HSI>EFIS_SERIAL or EMS menu>SETUP>GLOBAL>EMS SERIAL.

An HSI Setup menu was added. This menu makes it possible to override the auto detect feature of the local serial port.

Added: AOA audio threshold.
See: EFIS menu>SETUP>AOAALM>MINSPD

To reduced nuisance AOA audio alerts, a threshold was added under which audio is inhibited. AOA audio is inhibited at power-up. Audio will continue to be inhibited until IAS reaches the threshold (20 kts by default). The AOA bar continues to operate as normal. Once above the threshold audio will be uninhibited and will operate as normal until IAS drops below the threshold. However, if IAS drops below the threshold while audio is active (in a stall), audio will remain active as long as IAS stays alive. This does not fix a bad AOA calibration.

Added: Minimum red line on tach.
See: EMS menu>SETUP>GLOBAL>ENGINE TYPE: ROTAX

Added a minimum red line setting for Rotax engines.

Added: Minimum red line on oil temperature.
See: EMS menu>SETUP>GLOBAL>ENGINE TYPE: ROTAX

Improved: Flight time reset.

The flight time is saved and preserved across a power cycle. It is reset when the oil pressure exceeds 15 PSI for the first time after power-up.

Improved: Leaning mode temperature display.

The temperature drop reading of a cylinder now supports 3 digits so that LOP or ROP temperatures above 99 degrees can be displayed.

Improved: OAT set menu display.
See: EFIS menu>OATSET
